Peachland farm was established initially as a peach orchard in 1982. In
1993 we started converting our farm to grow organic vegetables. We are now
an organic farm certified by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Our primary goal is to provide organic vegetables to the Houston markets. But we also sell our produce to other Texas markets through food brokers. Our vegetables are sold to both the retail and wholesale market. We have a general store on our farm that sells our fresh produce to walk in customers. We make weekly deliveries to three organic vegetable co-op groups in the Houston area.
Joan Gundermann and her husband own the farm. But Joan operates the farm on a day-to-day basis. Joan is very active in the Texas participation for national organic farming standards and she leads the Wharton Organic Farmers group.
We grow over 100 varieties of vegetables throughout the year, although the list changes each week. The farm operates on a twelve month basis, but during the hot days of July and August the farm cuts back production. The farm is opened for visits during the months of May, June, and July, depending on weather (primarily the heat).
We are located near Wharton, Texas. Wharton is about one hour southwest of Houston.
